Many FT-100/D, IC-706MKIIG, IC-703, and IC-718 users are less than thrilled with the performance of the built-in speech processor in the radio. A viable solution to obtain PUNCH in your signal is to install the One BIG Punch in the supplied MH-36 microphone and turn off the internal FT-100/D speech processor. Using the OBP-100D in the MH-36 and setting Menu #16 to 2 provides a good improvement in talk power and articulation. The OBP for the FT-817 and the FT-100/D differ in two respects. The OBP-100D includes a voltage regulator (MH-36 supplies a higher voltage to the OBP than does the MH-31) and the increased output of the MH-36 (electret element) is accommodated. See the material for the FT-817 One BIG Punch above for additional information. On-the-air reports have consistently favored the OBP over the stock FT-100/D speech processor. Similar results for the OBP installed in the HM-103 microphone.

This Universal OBP will work with most any radio as long as the microphone can supply at least 7.5 VDC and less than 18 VDC. For 5 VDC microphones, use the OBP for the FT-817.
