The One FAST Charger for the FT-897(D) (OFC-897) was designed by W4RT Electronics to specifically charge either the 4500 mAh W4RT One Plug Power (OPP-897) or the Yaesu battery pack. Charging time is about 4 hours if the battery is discharged. Remember the OPP-897 contains 11 NiMH cells and has a full-charged voltage of about 15.4 VDC.

The OPP-897 NiMH fast charger use negative voltage slope detection to detect fully charged batteries and has a timeout to prevent inadvertent overcharging, and power (green) and fast charge (red) LED indicators. The nominal output current of the OFC-897 is 1250 mA..

The power input to the OFC uses 4-pin connector (two for AC (18 VAC) and two for DC inputs). The supplied wall wart plugs connects via this connector. You may also use any DC supply to power, e.g., the OFC-817 as long as the voltage is >26 VDC and < 28 VDC. So you can use your bench supply or even a solar array when out on those deep-country hikes!

The OFC-897 is similar to the OFC-817 except that it is designed to charge the FT-897(D)'s 13.2 VDC battery packs. The charge current is nominally 1250 mA, which means a pack may charge in a bit over three hours!

The Fast Chargers were designed by W4RT Electronics and are manufactured by us as well. Each OFC includes the charger unit, an appropriate wall wart with the Molex connectors installed, and cable to connect to the OPP-897 battery pack. Can be used with the OPP-897 installed in the FT-897(D) or outside if desired.
